Countdown to Airshow take-off
Engines are revving and it’s all systems go for the spectacular
2008 Maxims Casino Southend Airshow.
This thrilling event on Sunday 25th May and Monday 26th May - one
of Europe’s largest free airshows – offers a full flying programme
on both days with a huge range of entertainment all along the
seafront too.
Each day the RAF’s world famous aerobatic team, the Red Arrows, are
set to soar over the crowds with their spine-tingling new
display.
Ever wondered what it’s like to be a Red Arrows pilot? Find out at
the new Red Arrows Village on the seafront where you could try a
flight simulator and sit in the cockpit of a life-sized Hawk
aircraft – the type of plane the Red Arrows fly. And you can meet
the pilots too!
This year’s Maxims Casino Southend Airshow specially celebrates the
90th anniversary of the RAF with the chance to see planes through
the ages, and pay homage to the well-loved Battle of Britain
Memorial Flight including a Lancaster, Hurricane and
Spitfire.
Among other high flying and skilfully landing highlights, are the
Team Guinot Wing Walkers, the Blades Aerobatic Team, the Black Cats
Navy Helicopter Display Team, the Falcons Parachute Team and Search
and Rescue demonstrations.
On the ground will be a large RAF Town Show with static aircraft,
and interactive displays, as well as shows for the Army, Royal
Marines and the Royal Navy.
Meanwhile, reaching from earth to sky is the world’s largest
chocolate fountain, a remarkable nine and a half feet tall. This
unmissable extravaganza is not only on show, but also available for
tasting in the Maxims Casino marquee, opposite the Maxims Casino
building on Western Esplanade, Southend.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council’s Executive Councillor for
Enterprise, Tourism and Regeneration, Councillor John Lamb says:

both days and will be delighted to welcome your donations. There
will also be a display giving more information about the tremendous
work of Havens Hospices for people throughout south Essex.”

says: “The Airshow brings three quarters of a million people
flocking to Southend. There is so much for them to see and do, we
hope all our visitors have a thoroughly wonderful time.”
