50/50 at The Palm Beach

50/50 at The Palm Beach

When some turn 50, they get a cake heavier on candles than icing, but this year’s half-centenary sees Genting celebrate with a poker tournament par excellence. London may celebrate poker like few other countries, but genuine High Roller tournaments are few and far between these days. A £50k buy-in is a rarity, so when it comes along, we expect the best of the best to make the journey. Welcoming players from around the world to the greatest capital on Earth for poker, London’s Mayfair will once again be the centre of attention as the 50/50 Super High Roller tournament takes place at the Palm Beach casino.

All the action takes place between Monday 5th - Wednesday 7th October. If you want to play and haven’t been to Mayfair’s favourite casino before, you might not know what to expect. We can tell you – class. From the best dealers in Europe to our five-star restaurant, from the stunning cocktail bar to every table game under the stars, everything about The Palm Beach will put you in the frame of mind to have the week of your life.

With hour-long levels throughout, there’s plenty of play in the tournament itself and there is plenty of history in the last couple of years for exactly this sort of event. In October 2013, Philipp Gruissem beat Scott Seiver (£509,600) heads-up at ‘The Beach’ to win the World Poker Tour’s Alpha8 event, winning £862,400 in the process. He was one of three Germans to finish in the money ahead of Tobias Reinkemeier (£352,800) and Igor Kurganov (£235,200) after Tony G bubbled, despite getting one over on the eventual winner here:

Last year, it was the turn of Daniel Colman, the player of 2014, to continue his hot streak and lock up a staggering £600,000 of the win when he beat Max Altergott to the title of WPT Alpah8 London champion. Popular businessman and poker player Talal Shakerchi won £224,000 for finishing third and Isaac Haxton came fourth for £160,000 – no mean feat in itself.

This week, the 3-day tournament begins at high noon each day, costing £50,000 to enter, plus a £1,500 registration fee, £100 of which will be donated to CHIPS Charity.  Those high rollers who prefer to arrive fashionably late can register until the end of Level 10. Monday will see 8 levels take place, with action going all the way to the final table on Tuesday before playing to a winner on Wednesday.

The action doesn’t stop at the Super High Roller level, with a very special tournament giving back in a unique way. In addition to the 50/50, The Palm Beach Casino will also be hosting a very special £500 entry CHIPS Charity tournament on Wednesday 7th October in an effort to help raise £6,500 and buy a wheelchair to give the precious gift of mobility and independence to a disabled child. This event starts at 8pm, with 50% of the prize-pool going to the charity.

We’ll be keeping you up to date with every big name, bust-out and bluff as the drama builds to yet another big winner at The Palm Beach Casino via our Twitter feed throughout, using the hashtag #Genting5050 – it couldn’t be easier to follow the action here www.twitter.com/GentingPokerLondon!
