Coventry casino dealer plays winning hand to claim dealer of the year title
A Coventry man has been recognised as the UK’s best dealer after winning Genting Casinos’ Dealer of the Year Competition.
Michael Lam, aged 32, beat off stiff competition from eight other dealers in the final at Genting International Casino at Resorts World Birmingham to claim the title, £500 and a cruise for two.
The event recognises the most talented and skilled dealers across 40 of the company’s casinos nationwide.
Michael, who joined the company in 2011, is based at the Genting Casino Coventry. He said: “I’ve worked in the industry for 5 years, so I was able to use all my experience and personality in the final. It’s the first time I’ve had such success at a national level and it was an amazing experience to win.”
Federica Butera, of Genting International Casino at Resorts World Birmingham, was runner-up and Antonio Scialdone, from Genting Club Fountainpark in Edinburgh, came third.
Tracey Gough, General Manager at Genting Casinos Coventry, said: “We have some highly talented people and this competition gives us a chance to recognise and celebrate dealers who are at the top of their game. Michael is a worthy winner. He is very polite and approachable, has great technical ability and engages well with customers.”
65 casino dealers competed in regional heats and nine made the final. They were judged on their style, accuracy and procedures in dealing American Roulette and Blackjack, together with various exercises all against the clock.
