Stoke casino chips in for hospice charity
Charity minded colleagues at a Stoke casino are to test their stamina on a treadmill to raise money for Douglas Macmillan Hospice.
Genting Club in Etruria Road, Hanley, will set up the treadmill over five nights from Monday 17 August and invite staff to clock up a total of 50 hours between them in return for donations. Customers can have a go too.
The challenge, plus a ‘pot of gold’ competition to guess the number of golden chips in a bottle, will support the charity as part of Genting’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
Deputy general manager Marc Horton said: “We wanted to mark the anniversary with fun activities which would also benefit a good cause. We are staging a special party night on Saturday 22 August when the team will be in fancy dress on a gold theme, so we’re expecting some creative costumes.”
During the evening the winners of a free prize draw will be announced. The top prize is a stay at Resorts World Birmingham, a £150 million development which is the UK’s first integrated destination leisure complex and opens later this year.
Douglas Macmillan Hospice is the only specialist palliative care provider in Stoke, North Staffordshire and surrounding areas for adults facing any life-limiting illness. In May the casino raised £911 for the hospice by entering a team in the 110-mile Dougie Mac charity bike ride.
It is 50 years since Genting’s founder Tan Sri Lim was inspired to create a hill resort during a visit to Cameron Highlands in Malaysia. Genting casinos around the UK are holding special events for the anniversary and running gold-themed activities.
